It’s nearing the end of the semester and I don’t know if I’m really looking forward to it. I’m normally happy when school is done and I can go work and make some money. However this year I’m taking a summer semester as I need two more classes to get my degree. I haven’t taken summer classes since I was in a tech program 5-6 years ago and I didn’t like them. The classes were fine but it was annoying that my friends were going out and travelling and I wasn’t able to because of school. I think I’m also nervous about what’s going to happen in the next few months involving school. I have three choices for school: Medicine Hat College, University of Alberta and University of Lethbridge. Although I would prefer U of L or MHC, I think I might end up only being accepted at U of A. Where ever I go, I still have two more years of school before I am done.
I got my bass back from a friend the other day and started playing again. I haven’t really played bass (or guitar for that matter) in the last six months due to not having much time and ambition to play. It is kind of nice to start playing again but it is also kind of frustrating to get back to the point I was at before. When I started playing bass my biggest goal was to play fingerstyle. The reason for this being that I prefer the tone that comes from the fingers and felt it could also help my fingerstyle playing on guitar.
While it’s frustrating at times trying to play something that is faster with the fingers and not a pick, the challenge is nice. Now if I could only play some decent slap bass…
Although the album has been out since 2006, I still really like Wilco’s “Sky Blue Sky” album. However is there anyone else who when they listen to “You Are My Face” think of Steely Dan? Maybe it’s the influence of Nels Cline that leads me to think of it. I dunno, just at the turn around in the song it has a Steely Dan vibe to it for me. Not that it’s a bad thing.
If you haven’t heard the song “You Are My Face” here’s a live version of it:
I don’t know if it is known through out the University but recently a class I am enrolled in has had some drama. In the University newspaper there is the section titled “Three Lines Free” where students can anonymously write in. I don’t read the paper so I didn’t know about this until a department head came in and told the situation and cancelled the class. The comments in the paper were also specifically directed at the teacher as the class name was included.
While I personally did not entirely agree with something that the teacher did that may have started this whole situation, I don’t condone people attacking an instructor personally. If someone has a problem with someone’s teaching style I can understand that but do not attack someone’s private life. Also I don’t see why people do things anonymously. It almost seems like in High School that people had more of a backbone to say something to an instructor’s face if they had a problem with something. Now that we are in post-secondary education and supposedly “mature” we tend to hide behind things
Although it is only rumors, there were people saying the class might be cancelled. If this happens I will be severely screwed as I need this course and two more classes which are being taken in the summer semester in order to receive my degree. I need this degree because I am applying to the Faculty of Education at other institutes and if I do not get it, I will have to wait another year to reply.
Happy Easter to everyone. This might offend some people but at Easter Time I am always reminded of this bit by the late comedian Bill Hicks about the Easter Bunny and Gideons.
Here’s the video. Language and content may bother some people.
A few months ago I was reading an article in Men’s Health titled “Eat This, Not That!“. In the article it gives a certain resteraunt chain and what is the healthiest and unhealthiest thing to eat there. As I am lazy and tend to eat lots of fast food I went and bought the book. Although I am not overweight, my diet is not the best and I thought maybe I could do simple things to change it like healthier food choices when I am out eating. The biggest problem I found with this book is that it has a lot of American food chains in it that I have not seen before. However it also gives suggestions of how to eat healthy when you are buying food from a grocery store so that is a plus.
